This box is made from Leopardwood, a premium striking, exotic hardwood native to Central and South America, known for its unique, speckled pattern resembling a leopard's coat. The centre of the top is framed by bands of Leopardwood, separated and defined by strips of Padauk veneer.

Overall exterior dimensions are about 11.8" x 8.4" x 2.8"  (30.5 x 21.3 x 7.0 cm). The interior has thirty-two padded inserts, each about 2" (5.1 cm) wide

No stains or dyes have been used. The rich colours that you see are the natural colours of the finished woods.

Interior and exterior are finished with an Osmo micro-porous wood oil. The resultant low-lustre finish is smooth, durable, and appealing. Dividers and supports are finished with Danish Oil, a penetrating resin.

Woods Used:

Leopardwood, Padauk veneer

Exterior:

The sides of the box are made from a single board with waterfall mitre joints. That allows the natural pattern of the wood grain to flow all the way around the box. Grain is matched on three corners.

Leopardwood finger lift.

Mitred corners reinforced with Leopardwood keys.

Sides are solid 1/2" (13  mm) thick Leopardwood

Top is made from solid woods into an assembly about 1/2" (13 mm) thick. It was then re-sawn into two pieces about 1/8" (3mm) thick which were laminated to both sides of 1/4" (6 mm) plywood. This construction not only makes the interior of the top as attractive as the exterior, but also prevents warping of the top.

Interior:

Cherry dividers and supports.

Solid brass quadrant hinges.

Interior is lined with faux-suede woven fabric.
