VIEW

This is a one of a kind valet box. The sides are curly bird's eye maple, with edges of walnut. The walnut top has inlays of curly bird's eye maple. The grain flows continuously around the sides (four-corner grain match).

Curly bird's eye maple is quite rare and is stunning. The curly nature of the wood adds a dramatic three-dimensional  shimmering effect. The 'eyes' have a depth that changes with your angle of view. Check out the side view to see these effects.

The interior of the box is designed to accommodate loose change, wallet, PDA, cell phone, glasses, cufflinks and the like.

Notice how the interior of the top is finished as beautifully as the exterior. That takes extra time and material. But, the result is well worth it.

SPECIFICATIONS

Dimensions:

about 12" x 9" x 3.5"

Finish:

Interior and exterior are finished with several coats of Danish Oil, a penetrating resin. Exterior is further finished with a three-stage wax process, the final stage being carnuba.  The resultant finish is smooth, durable, and appealing.

Accent wood:

Walnut and curly bird's eye maple

Exterior:

Sides are solid 1/2" thick curly bird's eye maple with a four-corner grain match.  Top and bottom edges are accented with walnut.

Mitred corners are reinforced with internal splines of walnut.

Top is made of  1/8" walnut with inlays of curly bird's eye maple, and laminated to both sides of 1/8"  Finnish birch plywood (3-ply or 7-ply). This construction not only makes the interior of the top as attractive as the exterior, but also prevents warping of the top.

Interior:

Solid brass quadrant hinges.

Cherry tray sides, dividers and runners.

Tray and bottom are lined with tan coloured faux suede.
