The interior of this beautiful jewelry chest has ample space for earrings, cuff links, necklaces, bracelets and watches. The drawer has ten handmade padded inserts, each of which can accommodate two rings, earrings, or cuff links. The upper level has six handmade pillows for watches or bracelets.

This chest was made from Wenge, a premium hardwood from Central Africa. It is a dense hardwood known for its dark brown to almost black color, often featuring contrasting light streaks and a coarse texture with a straight grain. 

The top is 3 mm clear glass, framed by bands of Wenge, each separated and defined by strips of Cherry veneer.

No stains or dyes have been used. The rich colours that you see are the natural colours of the finished woods.

The six compartments with the pillows are about 2.5" x 4.5" (6.4 x 11.4 cm) and about 2.4" deep (6.0 cm). 

The two trays are about 3/4 " deep (1.9 cm). Inside dimensions of the compartments in each are about:-

Finish:

Interior and exterior are finished with an Osmo micro-porous wood oil.  The resultant low-lustre finish is smooth, durable, and appealing. Trays, dividers and supports are finished with Danish Oil, a penetrating resin.

Corner posts are Wenge with Cherry veneer where they join the sides of the box.

Sides are solid 1/2" (13 mm) thick Wenge

The centre of the top is 3 mm clear glass, framed by bands of 1/2" (1.3 cm) Wenge, each separated and defined by strips of Cherry veneer.

 

Interior:

The 3mm clear glass is secured with glued and screwed strips of Wenge.

Nickel plated brass quadrant hinges.

Drawer sides, trays and dividers are solid Black Walnut

Interior is lined with luxurious velveteen woven fabric. The handmade padded inserts and pillows are covered in the same material.
