This is a limited edition of three jewelry boxes made from a single board of Curly Figured Maple. A different exotic wood is used in each for contrast and accent. Purpleheart is the accent wood for this box.

This Curly Figured Maple has a spectacular horizontal and vertical grain pattern. The vertical rays provide a dramatic shimmering effect. Check out the top and side views to see the effects.

The interior has a removable tray with nine compartments for rings, earrings and other such small treasures. Beneath the tray, the bottom of the box is partitioned into three sections for larger items.

Notice how the interior of the top is finished as beautifully as the exterior. That takes extra time and material. But, the result is well worth it.

Finish:

Interior and exterior are finished with several coats of Danish Oil, a penetrating resin. Exterior is further finished with a three-stage wax process, the final stage being carnuba.  The resultant finish is smooth, durable, and appealing.

Exterior:

Sides are solid 1/2" thick Curly Figured Maple with a three-corner grain match.  Mitred corners are reinforced with keys of Purpleheart.

Base and top panel rails are made of Purpleheart.

Top panel is made of  1/8" curly maple  and laminated to both sides of 1/8"  Finnish birch plywood (3-ply or 7-ply). This construction not only makes the interior of the top as attractive as the exterior, but also prevents warping of the top.

Solid brass quadrant hinges.

Tray sides, dividers and runners are solid cherry.

Tray and bottom lined with faux suede.
